An inquiry has been made since the R18+ bill was submitted to parliament, finding that it should move ahead without further public consultation.
The report goes through ten pages of usual bureaucracy acknowledging the committee members, the on page 11 has its list of recommendations. There is only one recommendation in the findings, which states that they recommend that parliament pass the bill.
Further to this, however, and in a blow to people who have been condemning a lack of public consultation on an R18+ rating (in spite of countless polls and surveys all revealing the same overwhelming support), the inquiry also goes on to suggest that more than enough evidence has been provided to make this a swift transition out of parliament and into legislation.
The inquiry reads: "The Committee does not consider it necessary to duplicate the extensive public consultation processes that have already been conducted. Moreover, the public should not be called on to make submissions to multiple inquiries on the same topic."
The committee further notes that the bill is in no way controversial, and simply aims to align the current age rating system for videogames with that of other media.
Currently, the bill is expected to come into law by 1st January 2013.
