Software Sales Monitor: Market drops 13.6%

The UK games retail market generated £12.1m for the week ending January 21st – a 13.6 per cent decrease over the £14m made the week prior.

Unit sales also slipped 13.9 per cent from 662,463 to 570,388.

FIFA 12 continued its fine run of form with its fifth consecutive UK chart No.1. It has now generated more revenue than any other sports game in the UK to date. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to reverse the market’s steady week-on-week decline.

Rayman Origins made its Top Ten debut this week after rising from No.17 to No.9, thanks to price promotions at retail. Fitness games continued to perform well, with Zumba Fitness steady at No.6 and Wii Fit Plus jumping from No.20 to No.15.

Capcom’s Resident Evil: Revelations arrives in the UK today (Friday, January 27th), ending several weeks without any big new releases. It’s the first of many Resident Evil games due this year.
