Some 360 owners being offered free credit if they buy an Xbox One

Microsoft is dangling an Xbox One shaped carrot in the face of a few select Xbox 360 owners.

As spotted by NeoGaf, a promotion seems to have cropped up on the dashboard of a select number of Xbox 360 owners offering $75 worth of free credit if they make the step up to Microsoft’s new machine.

The blurb claims that the deal is exclusive to the company’s very best customers”.

How this is defined remains a mystery, however, and there’s no discernable pattern linking those who claim to have already received it.

To qualify users must first spot the notification on their console then buy and activate an Xbox One between now and July 31st. The free credit code will then arrive by August 15th and must be redeemed by October 15th.

The credit must be spent within one year.

"This short-term promotion is offered to select Xbox fans in the US, Canada and the UK," a Microsoft spokesperson told Eurogamer.

We are always looking for opportunities to bring promotions like this to our customers, but we have nothing further to share at this time."
