Sonic, Bowser and Mega Man among new wave of confirmed Amiibo figures

Nintendo has named and pictured the characters that will feature in its third and fourth wave of Amiibo releases.

Gematsu lists the third wave as Bowser, Ike (Fire Emblem), King DeDeDe (Kirby), Lucario (Pokemon), Meta Knight (Kirby), Rosalina & Luma (Mario Galaxy), Sheik (Zelda) and the cel-shaded version of Link from Wind Waker.

They will all arrive in Japan on January 22nd.

A fourth wave will follow in February including Sonic, Mega Man and Shulk (Xenoblade).

There’s no word yet on a UK or American release date for the figures.

The first wave of Amiibo figures arrive later this month in the UK, followed by the second wave in early December. Amiibo compatible games include Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse.

Nintendo’s biggest challenge at this point may be how much shelf space it can get for the range. Pre-Christmas activity should be decent but sustaining it into the New Year may be a bigger challenge.

The platform holder may also face calls to expand how the figures function within games, as simply unlocking costumes may not act as a sufficient enticement for buyers.
