Sony assures fans over disappearing SingStar purchases

Users of the freshly released SingStar: Ultimate Party have seen purchased songs vanish from their libraries.

The latest iteration of the karaoke title was released on PS3 and PS4 last Friday but a flood of complaints on the game’s Facebook page say that tracks purchased for previous versions of the game have vanished from both their systems and their purchase history.

This appears to be happening regardless of whether a user has downloaded the new game or not.

90 per cent of my SingStar songs have gone missing!” one user said. What’s worse is that when I go to my previously purchased Song History, it shows only five per cent of my total purchases since 2008 available – what happened to all my song purchases or purchases for that matter Sony? How on earth, first of all, would you have permission to invade my hard drive and have them deleted?

Another added: PS3 XMB… Around 400 songs have gone missing from my library and not showing in my purchase history. Like many customers, I have not kept a list of my purchases so cannot tell you individual songs that are missing. This is outrageous and your responses on social media are far from adequate!”

And another: My purchase history only has about 12 songs. I’ve purchased over 200.”

Sony has tried to assure customers that they will not have to pay to access any content that they have previously purchased.

Some of you have been reporting issues with missing songs on PS3 in the past few days. Thanks for letting us know about these,” it said. We are continuing to look into this at the moment. Please be assured that you will not have to repurchase any songs you already own. Apologies for any issues experienced.”

Sony has previously said that it is looking to re-licence as many tracks as it can from previous titles in the series so owners can port them to PS4. However, there are likely to be many purchases that will not be available on the new title.
