Sony Pictures Television is reportedly developing original programming for PSN, a service that will debut with an adaptation of police procedural comic series Powers.
The Wall Street Journal reports the the ten-episode adaptation is being developed exclusively for PSN in the US. The comic centers around a pair of homicide detectives charged with investigating cases related to those with super powers.
VG247 also recounts SCEI president Andrew House’s comments from last July, which suggested Sony’s interest in utilizing PSN for exclusive television-style content.
With 110 million PlayStation Network accounts worldwide, that’s a substantial business opportunity for Sony Pictures to reach a different audience,” House said at the time.
Work is [already] under way to develop original TV-style programming content, which could be made available with some form of exclusivity to people on the PSN – essentially using PSN as a distribution network – particularly for members of PlayStation Plus.”
Sony has yet to offer comment on the report.
