Sony had plans for Super Smash Bros, Uncharted, Metal Gear and BioShock films

A fresh bout of documents obtained from the 2014 Sony Pictures hack have been released by WikiLeaks, bringing with it fresh details about Sony Pictures’ gaming movie aspirations.

It had previously been reported that Sony believed it was in with a shot of securing the rights to an animated Mario film, but Ars Technica reports that ambitions stretched beyond that – Sony wanted to make a Super Smash Bros film.

Emails to former Sony Pictures boss Amy Pascal referenced the already exposed meetings between Nintendo and producer Avi Arad. These new documents detail what is described as a five year chase” of rights to a host of characters including Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong.

Pokemon was also named by Arad and referred to as "the other property I am working on with Nintendo".

Sony’s gaming movie ambitions went beyond Nintendo, however. A numbers of brands are mentioned in the communications including Sony properties such as Uncharted and Gran Turismo, as well as a host of third party IP such as Metal Gear Solid, BioShock and Sonic the Hedgehog.
