Sony launching new networking device

A new content streaming device called Nasne is on the way from Sony.

The small black box comes with 500GB of internal storage and, in Japan at least, both digital and satellite tuners.

It will offer streaming and storage interoperability with other Sony devices such as PS3, PlayStation Vita, VAIO PCs and tablets.

The device will also come with a special PlayStation software suite called Torne 4.0. This will offer a range of content functions including the ability to transfer content recorded from the TV directly to Vita, even while the program is still being recorded.

"We are offering a seamless and unique Sony experience through Nasne, which serves as a home entertainment hub that connects to Sony’s various network products," Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai stated.

"Nasne will give users more freedom to enjoy television in new ways by enabling them to watch programs on various Sony products through dedicated applications.

We will continue to offer attractive products and services that inspire customers around the world and spark their curiosity, by further enhancing collaboration within Sony groups."

Nasne is scheduled for a release in Japan this summer and will cost 16,980 (around 130).

So far there’s no word on an international release, though its previous product in this area – PlayTV – was released in the UK.
