Sony’s next-gen PS4 console will not require a constant internet connection for users to access its features, Sony’s worldwide Studios president has said.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Shuhei Yoshida said that despite a vast array of social, cross-platform and cloud streaming features, users will stay be able to play their PS4 offline if they want to.
"You can play offline, but you may want to keep it connected," he said.
"The system has the low-power mode - I don't know the official term - that the main system is shut down but the subsystem is awake. Downloading or updating or you can wake it up using either the tablet, smartphone or PS Vita."
The news comes as Microsoft’s next Xbox is rumoured to require a constant internet connection to operate properly, although the console giant has yet to officially reveal any details of its next-gen hardware.
