SONY: Transistor and Oddworld remake lead PS4 indie line-up

Sony has demonstrated a convincing commitment to indie at its E3 press conference, calling numerous independent developers to the stage as it insisted that small studios and self publishing are vital to the PlayStation 4.

Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida opened the discussion of indies at the event.

"We are amazed and inspired by the passion of these small teams," he said, before handing over to Adam Boyes, VP of third party relations at SCE.

"Cultivating a wide variety of game experiences is in our blood," Boyes stated. "We absolutely love scouring the earth for inspirational indie developers"

Boyes reiterated that the PlayStation 4 also enables self-publishing for indies; seemingly making a nod to Microsoft’sunpopular lack of support of self-publishing for independent teams.

Bastion developer Super Giant Games then took to the stage to reveal that it is bringing its new title Transistor (pictured) to PS4 first, giving the console another high profile indie supporter after Jonathan Blow demonstrated his PS4 debuting title the Witness at the console’s unveiling in February this year.

"We developing the worlds best indie game portfolio across all the playstation platforms, and giving developers the ability to self public their games," said Boyes, before a number of indies were revealed demoing their PS4 titles on stage.

Clay Entertainment, Switchblade Monkeys, Rag Tag Studios, 17 Bit Games, Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning and many others were shared space on stage, all of which will will debut their creations first on PlayStation 4.

Titles in development include Don’t Starve, Mercenary Kings, Secret Ponchos, Octodad: Deadliest Catch and Oddworld Inhabitants, as well as a remake of the original Abe’s Odyssey, titled Oddworld: New N Tasty.
