Core Online, the HD streaming games service from Square Enix, has been shut down.
Visitors to the site are currently greeted with a simple holding image saying “Core Online is discontinued”.
A statement on the publisher’s support pages adds that: “Core Online was released as an experiment to see what demand there would be for HD games played via the browser.
“However, due to limited commercial take-up of this initiative, Core Online closed on Friday 29th November 2013.”
Core Online users were able to pay $2.99 per month for unlimited access to a handful of titles such as Hitman: Blood Money and Tomb Raider: Underworld. Alternatively titles were available on an individual basis.
