Steam music player officially launches

Valve has released the Steam Music Player to the general public, allowing Steam users to play MP3 files off of their hard drive within the Steam client and while in-game.

According to a new post on Steam’s news section, the service – originally introduced earlier this year in beta – includes playlist support that can be accessed in-game via Steam’s overlay feature.

Additionally, an accompanying update has added a Music section under the Library tab in the Steam client. The music library automatically shows game soundtracks available from purchases made – provided the related game is installed.

To celebrate the launch, Valve is offering all of its game soundtracks (as well as its Free to Play documentary) at no cost to owners of the related core products.
