Streaming push for ShopTo

ShopTo has made a serious play into the streaming media space.

The company has bought movie firm FetchTV out of administration, MCV can reveal. Fetch’s app is pre-installed on thousands of set top boxes and smart TVs.

Increasingly-important ShopTo will allow users to stream movies on its website. But that’s the first step to offer more to its audience of dedicated gamers. ShopTo customers will be able to use Reward Points to buy films and watch movies online.

The line between movies and games has been blurring for a long time,” said ShopTo CEO Igor Cipolletta.

Customers demand immediate entertainment on many devices, be it iPhone, iPad, TV or laptop and we will be moving our entertainment offering to cater for this shift in home entertainment consumption.”

The acquisition also sees ShopTo secure an interest in hardware manufacture. FetchTV set-top boxes are available at Tesco, Currys and PC World. Its software is installed on Panasonic, Samsung and LG smart TVs.
