Tesco and Asda step up pre-owned offer

Having dipped their toes into the pre-owned games market in February, MCV understands that both Asda and Tesco have stepped up their efforts in the sector.

Asda has confirmed that it is now trialling pre-owned games in seven new stores in addition to the Leeds outlet that pioneered the scheme earlier this year.

A spokesperson for the retailer stated that it is very early days for us on this”, though MCV has been lead to believe that a national rollout is quite possibly on the cards following a very successful trial”, according to one retail source.

In addition, Tesco is also understood to have rolled out its pre-owned offer to a number of new outlets.

It doesn’t appear as if pre-owned games have made it into every store with an entertainment section just yet, though MCV has been informed that the retailer hopes to introduce between one and three bays of second hand games per outlet depending on size and proximity to competitors.

MCV has yet to receive confirmation from Tesco.

UPDATE: Tesco has issued the following statement to MCV. "We are extending our trial store base following the initial 2 store test."
