Tesco web boss departs

The person credited with driving Tesco’s recent multi-channel success, Laura Wade-Gery, has been poached by High Street rival Marks & Spencer.

M&S currently uses a web platform run by Amazon but will now look to develop its own solution with which it can expand its offer once its current agreement expires in 2013.

Tesco’s online operations currently account for around ten per cent of total revenue while M&S lags far behind at five per cent.

The supermarket has already confirmed that its Hungarian CEO Per Bank will now assume the role of commercial director for Tesco UK’s non-food division in March – until now Wade-Gery had planned to adopt that role.

Last week M&S’ former online and direct sales boss Dave Hughes left the retailer to head up GAME’s online and multi-channel offer.
