Hot on the heels of news that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 enjoyed its best ever February in the US last month, Nintendo has announced that its twin-screened portable has managed the same feat.
The DS sold 613k units in the time period – its previous best February was in 2009 when it sold 597k machines.
Nintendo notes that the achievement comes despite claimed product shortages in the region. Total DS sales for 2010 have already hit 1.9m.
Here in its sixth year of availability, Nintendo DS continues to expand the appeal of video games,” Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway stated.
We expect the public’s appetite for these systems will grow even more when we introduce our new extra-large model, the Nintendo DSi XL, on March 28.”
