Vanishing of Ethan Carter studio developing ‘open-world action-adventure’ title

The Astronauts is following up its acclaimed mystery debut The Vanishing of Ethan Carter with something very different.

The Polish studio was created by the former founders of Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly – which became Epic Games Poland for a brief period before reclaiming its independence earlier this year.

Now The Astronauts is seeking a new challenge and genre, if a job posting is anything to go by.

Seeking an AI programmer, the advertisement states very clearly: We are doing a new game and it’s an open-world action-adventure.” (Skillshot.pl, via PCGamesN.)

Referring to Ethan Carter’s ‘walking simulator’ elements of exploration – as opposed to the more interactive mechanics of titles such as Assassin’s Creed or Shadow of Mordor – the listing says that the new effort will be more of a game”. But, it adds, The Astronauts won’t stray too far from its winning formula.

"It’ll be rad, but of course we are not going to bite off more than we can chew right away,” it says.

Anyway, as suggested by the description, this will be more of a game than an explorer like Ethan. Although it will still have heavy atmosphere and deep narrative, it won’t do without men and creatures trying to kill you.”

The Astronauts recently remastered 2014’s Ethan Carter in Unreal Engine 4, releasing the update for free via Steam.
