Microsoft says that it has introduced new technology to support Xbox One compatible racing wheels.
Previously developers were able to programme in specific force feedback responses to certain situations in game, but this had to be done on a case by case basis with studios having to figure out what physical response best suited the on-screen action.
Now, however, software is available that will automatically calculate what should be happening. So depending on factors such as the car’s RPM or angle of collision with an opponent, wheels will respond automatically – and theoretically more realistically.
Devs are completely free to ignore this and revert to manual coding if they prefer, of course. Indeed, the video below makes a point of emphasising the breadth of options now available to peripheral manufacturers.
This extends to hardware configurations, too, which should offer more flexibility than seen previously.
