Vivendi Q1 games sales drop 24% year-on-year

A tough comparison to last year – when Blizzard’s World Of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade was released – has left Vivendi Games’ revenue for its first fiscal quarter down 24 per cent year-on year.

The division’s full revenue for the quarter ended March 31st, 2008 was €221 million ($341.5 m) – a drop of 24.1 percent drop from Q1 2006-2007.

Blizzard titles still made up the gross majority of the sales, however, generating €192 million – or 86.87 per cent of Vivendi Games’ total revenue.

Vivendi announced that World of Warcraft added two million subscribers since March 2007.

Vivendi’s games division reported earnings before interest and income taxes of €50 million.

Overall, parent Vivendi posted revenues of €5.3 billion for the three-month period, an increase of 5.2 perc ent year-on-year.

Net income was €697 million, a dip of 9.6 per cent.
