Watch out EA, Activision and Take-Two, Ubisoft says its new IP will go toe-to-toe with the biggest games of the year.
Watch Dogs launches next month and is hotly tipped to be the biggest selling title of 2014 so far. Ubisoft is already preparing future sequels and the firm’s Wayne Greenwell tells MCV this first title will likely remain atop of the charts throughout the summer months.
“Excitement for the product remains incredibly high and gamers are desperate to finally get their hands on the title,” he said. “This is reflected in our pre-orders which are hugely promising for a new IP and highlights the enthusiasm that has surrounded the product since it was first unveiled to the world.
“With Watch Dogs, Ubisoft is building a new blockbuster brand to stand alongside other top tier triple-A titles and we expect it to be not only one of the best selling new IPs in recent memory, but also one of the best selling titles throughout 2014.”
The publisher is splashing out on a tech-focused marketing campaign, featuring apps and live streaming technology, alongside the usual TV, print and online activity.
Ubisoft has partnered up with audio-recognition firm Shazam. Both the TV and national radio campaigns will make use of the app.
In retail the publisher has ads which contain NFC codes giving consumers a chance to win a holiday to the title’s setting of Chicago.
And on the launch day, Ubisoft will be partnering up with ‘top YouTubers’ who will be playing the game on live-streaming platform Twitch.
