Wii U sold just 460k units in the last six months

Nintendo’s latest financial report has revealed more disappointing sales for Nintendo’s Wii U.

Over the company’s last six months Wii U has sold just 460k units worldwide, with 300k of those selling in the quarter ending September 30th. It admitted that the release of Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker HD have evidently not helped the console.

Saying that, Wii u sales climbed 400 per cent year-on-year, reaching 5.27m units.

Global Wii U sales now stand at 3.91m units. Amazingly, Nintendo is sticking by its 9m unit Wii U sales forecast for the fiscal year ending March 30th. It clearly expects the machine will enjoy a strong Christmas.

All of which is a stark contrast to 3DS, however, which continues to perform solidly with lifetime sales now just shy of 35m units thanks to 2.49m unit sales in the last quarter – although that’s down 22 per cent year-on-year.

3DS software sales climbed 40 per cent to 16.37m units.
