Witcher 3 sold 4m copies in first two weeks

CD Projekt Red has announced that recent RPG release The Witcher 3 has sold over four million copies.

And that number only accounts for the first two week’s sales of the game. The best-selling game of the year has since then stayed firmly at the top of the UK charts, adding further to the number.

"Since day one, you have given us tons of positive feedback and support – the sheer volume of emails we’ve gotten since launch simply congratulating us for our efforts is both epic and heart warming, and I wish every developer comes to have such a fantastic community,” the studio’s co-founder Marcin Iwinski said.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the 4m gamers worldwide who bought The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the first two weeks from launch. 4m RPG fans spending their hard-earned money on our game is a sign that we did something right, and you can be sure that we’ll harness all that positive energy and make the upcoming expansions worthy of the grand adventure that you’re telling us Wild Hunt already is.”

With fellow Bandai Namco release Project Cars having also sold 1m copies worldwide, it’s safe to sday that it has been a very successful few weeks for the publisher – which claimed the title of top UK publisher for the first time in May.
