Xbox 360 gets Paramount movie app in US

Microsoft has added a new entertainment app to its Xbox Live service, this time as part of a partnership with Paramount Pictures.

The new app will give Xbox 360 owners quicker access to Paramount movies. Films can be either rented or purchased in standard or high-definition and then streamed to the console, according to Joystiq.

The service is currently only available in the US.

Movies are streamed directly from Paramount’s website. Users must sign up and subscribe to the filmmakers’ service before they can use the app. They will also require an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

During it’s E3 press conference last week, Microsoft pledged to double the number of entertainment providers available on Xbox Live. It announced 35 new partnerships including Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon and Machinima.
