Xbox One and PS4 break records at Amazon.com

The excitement surrounding the next generation of consoles has led to a record-breaking performance on Amazon.com.

The US retailer has announced a record week for its Video Games store that saw a 4,000 per cent year-on-year increase in console orders throughout E3.

Not a shock, maybe, as the hardware market is and was suffering a torrid time this stage last year.

Still, it’s certainly positive news. Pre-orders for the two consoles stand at nearly twice the amount of all video games orders made on Black Friday 2012.

At its peak last week customers were ordering 2,500 nest-gen consoles per minute.

"Last week, the Amazon Video Games store made history with its biggest pre-order week ever thanks to the launch of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4," a statement read.

Amazon didn’t provide any specific data surrounding pre-order numbers for each individual machine.
