ABC shows some love for games media

A Valentine’s Day summit will see games media bosses convene with ABC to crack how they can work better together.

Key publishing firms representing a host of mostly online, but also print brands, will be on hand at the Monday, February 14th meeting in central London.

The agenda is to see how ABC, which publishes the bi-annual circulation figures for magazines across the UK, can better serve the games media.

Intent Media, publisher of the powerful MCV Online and Develop Online, will attend the meeting alongside IGN, Eurogamer, Future and several others.

It will be specifically looking to see how better data can be provided on online media, for which traffic is so crucial when it comes to securing marketing support.

ABC offers electronic ‘ABCe’ audit reports for some sites, but they require publishers to opt in and outside of one or two instances have not caught on in games.

MCV published the first online games media league table last year, using ComScore data.

ComScore data, although controversial to some, is used extensively across media planning agencies.

ABC declined to comment publicly on the meeting’s aims, but it will no doubt want to know how it can play a part to establish such regular rankings itself.

ABC is set to detail the print circulation figures for UK consumer magazines – including specialist games titles – next week on Thursday, February 17th.
