New creative sector toolkit being added to Better Business Finance advice website

Banks launching funding guide for creative industry and games start-ups

The British Bankers Association is updating its online funding guide to include information on how to source finance for creative businesses such as games developers.

Better Business Finance is a long-running website set up by the BBA and leading UK high street lenders to offer introductory guidance to enterprises of all sizes, particularly smaller firms and start-ups.

A new creative sector toolkit is currently being added to the site, which details the funding options available to creative firms from banks, angel investors and other specialist players.

It will also offer tips on how to prepare a winning pitch and business plan when applying for finance, and highlight important issues such as managing your IP.

The banking industry has worked with Creative England and the Creative Industries Council to prepare the guide.

"We know there is a knowledge gap among creative businesses who regularly struggle to know where and how to access finance," said Creative England CEO Caroline Norbury.

"Information can be hard to find and extremely complicated to navigate. This new toolkit is very much welcomed as it will help demystify the funding landscape for creative entrepreneurs and let them understand what help is available where.

"We are working hand-in-hand with the banks and alternative finance providers to help build understanding across the sectors and, crucially, make sure the country’s world-leading creative talent get the support they need."

The news follows the UK government’s pledge of £8m to the games industry in the 2015 Budget.
