Samorost creator meets Ian Livingstone meets Sonyâ??s Neil Thompson at fifth annual game animation event

Buzz builds as industry prepares for BAF Game

A fleet of studios and game industry luminaries are heading for the fifth annual BAF Game event.

Art managers from both Sony London and Sony Liverpool are scheduled to hold speaker sessions over the two day event, as are industry veterans Ian Livingstone and Charles Cecil.

The event will open with a keynote speech from Jakub Dvorksy, the highly acclaimed designer and animator of web game Samorost.

A student at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, Dvorksy’s breakthrough flash title won the designer much praise, and indeed the attentions of Nike, who requested he design a flash game of a similar style yet starring former NBA All-Star Vince Carter.

Sony London’s Tara Saunders will discuss developing the PS3’s EyePet; an interactive virtual pet that reacts to the player through the EyeToy camera. Meanwhile, Sony Liverpool veteran Neil Thompson will have over two decades of experience to draw from.

Also attending the event will be Rare’s Wil Overton. Once part of the art team for magazines such as Future’s SuperPlay and N64 magazines, Overton’s passion for anime was regularly encapsulated on the publications’ front covers, before he was sworn in at Rare to become the studio’s concept artist.
