Manchester CGI agency saw ‘huge surge in interest’ from game companies after its F1 campaign

CGI agency Carbon Digital opens game trailers division

Manchester-based creative agency Carbon Digital has launched a dedicated games division to bring its CGI productions to the video games and toy industries.

The new department, Carbon Game Trailers, will offer an in-house service to create trailers and television adverts for games companies and toy manufacturers.

Carbon Digital has high-end CGI videos for TV adverts, the BBC and blue-chip companies.

Recently, it’s created trailers for Formula 1 and Mind Candy’s Moshi Monsters, two projects that it says gave it a “spring board for launching this new arm” of the company.

The firm recently hired Ian Richardson to oversee the launch of its new division. Richardson has 30 years experience in sales and a background in games which Carbon Digital says will be “invaluable” as it focuses on expanding this new arm of its business.

“We expect to double the team in the first quarter, whilst still remaining focused on first rate output,” Richardson added. “We began the year with a fresh branding and we are now ready to take advantage of this gap in the market. Our in-depth experience in scripting and directing cinematic sequences using high-end CGI will be of huge benefit.”

Carbon Digital MD Sue McHugh said: “Following our work with Mind Candy and F1 last year, we saw a huge surge in interest for our high-end CGI services from computer games companies. Our specialism in character animation, automotive realism and particle effects in particular are in high demand right now, and we saw this as a perfect time to build a dedicated team and specifically marketed service.”

The dedicated CGI Game Trailer division will be based at Media City, Manchester.
