Comics subscription service coming to Nintendo Switch

A brand new comics subscription service is launching on Nintendo Switch in November. Called InkyPen, the app will offer subscribers unlimited reading time with over 10,000 comics and graphic novels from publishers the world over.

A UK price isn’t confirmed in InkyPen’s promotional material, but it is stated to be $/€7.99 – so we’ll likely be looking at around £6.99 a month in Britain. Or £7.99 if the strength of the pound continues to waver internationally.

The service has an app made specifically for the Switch, so will take advantage of the console’s specific feature set. What this means is comics are viewable whether in handheld or TV mode, and you’ll be able to take advantage of the touchscreen for reading purposes, with zoom and swipe and all that good stuff you’d hope for.

Publishers partnered with InkyPen include IDW, Dynamite, Valiant, Humanoides Associés, Andrews McMeel, and more, so there’s a broad range of international flavour coming from the Norway-based company’s service.

“We have no intention of selling content piecemeal, there are other places for that. We’re bringing an all-you-can-read model to the international community,” said Ronan Huggard, CEO of InkyPen, “I could never afford to truly explore comics growing up, or even at university. Not because I didn’t have enough money, but because they were just too expensive for a student to justify buying. InkyPen solves this.”

InkyPen’s rollout begins November 2018, with Europe in the first wave of launches. Hopefully we’ll know how much it costs in GBP by then.
