Developers are still looking for more information about exactly how the Switch will work but in the meantime we’ve got a rough idea of how many units Nintendo are hoping to sell, giving a rough idea at what sort of install base developers could be working for.
These figures emerged as part of Nintendo’s quarter financial report, in which Tatsumi Kimishima, the company’s chief executive officer, says that the company plans to ship 2 million Switch consoles before the end of March 2017, the end of Nintendo’s fiscal year.
Nintendo didn’t give any more details about how the Switch will work or what games will debut alongside it, but the publisher provided some goals for the system as part of its most recent quarterly financial report. These units will be spread across all territories, so will cover Europe, Japan and the United States.
Also in the financial reports is that Nintendo won’t be selling the Switch as a loss-leading device, and will make a profit on each device. Quite how much remains to be seen, but Kimishima remarks that he wants to ensure the price remains in line with what customers expect.
The Switch is planned to launch in March, so those two million units will, at most, have to last for 4 weeks before Nintendo rolls into its next fiscal year.
