Game Boy Advance emulator smuggled onto App Store

Awesome Baby Names may seem like an innocuous app at first glance, but it hides dark things under the surface.

That is, dark things if you’re one of those who is opposed to retro game emulation. Of which Apple is certainly is, so expect this app to be pulled very shortly.

Pocket Gamer has translated a story from iPhoneBlog.de which explains how owners of the app can with just a few well placed taps access a Game Boy Advance emulator hidden within Awesome Baby Names.

Furthermore, users won’t need to jailbreak their iOS device to play the games. All they will need is a free bit of firmware with which they can dump GBA ROMs downloaded from the internet directly into their phone’s directories.

The site reckons the emulator itself is of rather poor quality. And with an abundance of emulators already available on Google’s Android, this development is unlikely to ruffle too many feathers.
