Killing Floor 2 arriving on Xbox One on August 29th

Tripwire Interactive, Deep Silver and Iceberg Interactive have announced its survival shooter Killing Floor 2 will be coming to Xbox One on August 29th, and will have Xbox One X support on Day One when the console launches later this year.

Retailing for 34.99, the Xbox One version will also include all the previously released content packs, such as The Tropical Bash, The Descent and elements of The Summer Sideshow.

It will also include new timed-exclusive content for Xbox One players that will allow players to spray zed enemies with liquid nitrogen and shatter them to pieces with the Freezethrower weapon. There will also be eight weapon skins available to customise the Freezethrower, plus exclusive access to the Wasteland Armour cosmetic uniform and five different skin styles.

The Xbox One X support, meanwhile, will include 4K support, increased performance, high resolution textures, shadow maps and increased shadow-fade-out distance. The game will also have customised support for Microsoft’s new streaming platform Mixer, although details are still thin on the ground as to what that might entail.

Killing Floor 2 originally launched on PC and PS4 in November last year, but failed to make the Top 40 at UK retail. Digitally, however, the game currently has around 1.3m owners according to Steam Spy (although this may be skewed by the game’s free weekend back in March), and was recently released as one of Sony’s free PS Plus titles.

This may work against Killing Floor 2’s Xbox One release, but the additional content should help it stand out against its previously free counterparts on rival platforms. August 29th is currently looking quite crowded for new releases, however, as Ubisoft’s Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Capcom’s Resident Evil Revelations HD remaster, Sega’s Yakuza Kiwami and the complete edition of Paradox’s Pillars of Eternity are also coming to retail on the same day, so we’ll have to wait and see whether the Xbox One version manages to perform any better than the PS4 version did last year.
