New $100,000 Overwatch tournament gives NA teams a shot a big money over Christmas

The Overwatch Winter Premiere is the latest big money Overwatch tournament to be revealed, with North American teams getting a chance to shine over the Christmas period.

The first stage of the event is four open qualifiers, with the top two teams from each qualifier making it into the next stage. These qualifiers will be open to all Overwatch teams in North America and runs between December 10th and 13th.

After that the eight teams that make it through will play in a two week round robin tournament, with week one taking place between December 26th and 28th and week two taking place between January 2nd and 4th. Six teams will then advance to the next stage.

The round of six is a one week round robin competition between January 9th and 11th, with four teams making it through to the live finals.

No date for the live finals has been given although it is expected to take place in late January. The finals will take place at NGE’s studios in Burbank, California.

This event should help the NA Overwatch scene massively. While they were considered one of the strongest regions in the early days of the game they have struggled in recent months and no NA team has ever won a major event. With international competition becoming more common and the Koreans dominating everyone this will give at least one NA team a big influx of cash.
