Though the Christmas number one won’t be announced for another couple of weeks, betting agency Paddy Power has announced that it is paying out on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 being the victor.
Well, in reality Paddy Power’s press release states that they’re paying out on Call of Duty 2’s victory, but the presumption is that’s a mistake – unless they genuinely believe the 2005 title is to make a hugely surprising comeback.
The news comes despite the current surge from FIFA 10, which has seen its odds slashed from 10/1 to 9/4, making it the second favourite behind MW2.
Three out of every four bets placed on the Christmas number one video game were backing Call of Duty 2,” a statement explained. With this level of support I don’t think we’re taking too much of a risk by paying out early.”
