Platinum apologises for Scalebound cancellation

The developer behind the now-canned Xbox and Windows 10 exclusive Scalebound has issued a statement about the project’s demise.

Writing on Platinum’s website, president and CEO Kenichi Sato said that the studio was disappointed with how the hack and slash project has ended up.

The exec was keen to point out that Platinum has a number of other titles coming up, including Nier:Automata.

We’re sorry to say that on January 9th, 2017, Microsoft Studios announced the cancellation of Scalebound,” Sato wrote.

We are very disappointed things ended up this way, especially since we know many of our fans were looking forward to this game as much as we were.

Going forward, we will strive to continue delivering high-quality games to you, starting with NieR:Automata in March, and including products like Granblue Fantasy Project Re:Link and Lost Order in the future.

"We will keep working hard to meet your expectations and we look forward to your continued support.”

Scalebound was announced at E3 2014, with a ‘late 2016′ release date announced at Gamescom 2015.

2016 opened with the news that the hack and slash had been bumped until 2017. And this year has begun with the cancellation of the title. Games historian Liam Robertson and Kotaku broke the news on January 9th that Scalebound had been axed, with Microsoft later confirming the news.
