PlayTV 2 in production

In an interview about the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet, a producer for Sony has let slip that the company is currently at work on a second iteration of its PlayTV technology.

When asked by Spong what Studio Cambridge is currently working on, senior producer Mark Green replied:

As a whole studio, I think you saw TV Superstars for Move announced a little while ago. We’re still working on Play TV, Play TV 2. And then we have other guys working on other concepts.”

PlayTV is an expansion for PS3 that coverts the machine into a Freeview TV player, with the ability to record live TV as well as stream TV to a PSP via a wi-fi internet connection.

In theory the device allows for the recording of Freeview HD, but the current model isn’t compatible with UK broadcast standards. This would surely be the priority for the in-development successor.
