Remember Bubsy? He’s coming back

It’s not clear how many people remember 1993 SNES platformer Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind. Publisher Retroism certainly hopes it’s quite a few.

The company has announced a re-release of the aforementioned title and its successor Bubsy II, which is currently touting its wares on Steam Greenlight. This release will be called Bubsy Two-Fur and has a proposed release date of late 2015 – which means in the next month.

Accolade’s most notorious character had not been seen since an ill-fated venture into 3D,” the blurb reads. Out of the blue, he showed up at Retroism’s doorstep, bedraggled and mumbling about being doomed to a legacy of shame and obscurity. But we’ve cleaned him up and given him a new lease on life, a shot at returning to the big time – but he’ll need your support!

Bubsy’s journey to redemption begins with your vote to bring two of his 2D games to authorized digital download for the first time in the Bubsy Two-Fur on Steam. With your support, Bubsy may finally be able to look himself in the mirror and smile, carry himself with dignity, and perhaps find the strength within to go on new adventures again.”

There have in total been four Bubsy games. The third, Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales was a rarity in that it was an exclusive for the Atari Jaguar in 1994. The fourth game, Bubsy 3D, was released on PlayStation in 1997 and was absolutely slaughtered by critics.
