The writer behind Spec Ops: The Line and upcoming shooter Evolve has quit triple-A games development.
Announcing his departure via Twitter, writer Walt Williams left 2K Games last week after almost a decade with the company. He claimed he will still be involved in the games industry, but will also be focusing on writing books, according to GameSpot.
"Working at 2K has been one of the most trying, difficult and mind-blowingly wonderful experiences of my life," he tweeted. "But it’s time to roll the dive again. Try something new.
"I’m not leaving games, but I am leaving triple-A. Not because I don’t love it – I totally do. I just want to try something new. I’ll still be working in games, but in the background. Which means there won’t be a ‘next game’ for a while. But there will be books."
It’s not clear whether these will be novels based on games franchises or original works, but Williams promised he has "many wonderful stories to tell".
Williams has written for BioShock 2, The Darkness II, Spec Ops: The Line and Mafia II. His last two titles were the upcoming Evolve and Civilization: Beyond Earth.
