Who says the boxed PC games market is dead? It overtook DS in the UK last year to be the fourth biggest games platform

PC has overtaken DS and 3DS to become the fourth biggest games platform in terms of boxed sales.

That’s according to the latest data released to MCV from GfK Chart-Track.

The PC market has been in decline over recent years, with more consumers choosing to download games via digital distribution platforms including Steam.

But continued declines in the handheld space means the boxed PC games sector increased its market share last year. The boxed sector was dominated by Football Manager and The Sims, while new releases Diablo III and Guild Wars 2 were also amongst the top sellers.

The Top Ten Boxed PC Games in Full:

1. Football Manager 2013 – Sega

2. Diablo III – Blizzard

3. Football Manager 2012 – Sega

4. The Sims 3 – EA

5. Guild Wars 2 – NCsoft

6. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Bethesda

7. The Sims 3: Seasons – EA

8. World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria – Blizzard

9. The Sims 3: Supernatural – EA

10. The Sims 3: Pets – EA
