Wii U sales back to pre-Mario Kart 8 levels in Japan

The Mario Kart 8 effect on Wii U sales appears to be over in Japan.

Famitsu sales data for the week ending June 22nd shows that Wii U sold 8,373 machines throughout the week. That’s slightly less than the 8,858 sold in the week before Mario Kart 8 was released, after which sales jumped to 19,031.

They then fell to 12,576 and 10,366 in the subsequent weeks.

Mario Kart 8 is also off of the top of the software charts with new 3DS release Pokemon Art Academy debuting in the top spot.

Note that this week also saw PS4 sales lip behind PS3.
