Following reports of a change to the d-pad on the default Xbox 360 controller, Microsoft has confirmed that a revision to the popular peripheral is in the works.
Joystiq reported last night that the platform holder was working on a new design for the d-pad that, when turned 90 degrees, raises itself a quarter of an inch. The modification is apparently being targeted at fighting fans as the extra travel should make fast, complicated movements far easier to execute.
And now Microsoft has confirmed that a redesign of some sort is in the works.
The Xbox 360 Wireless Controller with Play & Charge Kit – with Transforming D-pad will be available beginning early 2011 in the UK,” a spokesperson told MCV.
UPDATE: Major Nelson has added the following clarification. "The engineers have come up with an ingenious solution with a d-pad that can go from a plus to a disc with the twist of the wrist.
"In addition to the new d-pad, the matte silver controller also features concave analog sticks and gray A,B,X,Y buttons for added style. The controller will only be available with the new Play & Charge Kit that will launch on November 9th for US $64.99."
