200 + Locations Sign On
EVERYWHERE World Wide -- An all-star cast of game industry and academic innovators will kick off activities for the 2012 Global Game Jam (GGJ), a project of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA), Friday, Jan. 27 with an inspirational video, released worldwide.
Industry legends Baiyon, Gonzalo Frasca, Brenda Garno Brathwaite and John Romero will deliver remarks culminating in a speech by Will Wright. Frasca and Baiyon will be speaking in Spanish and Japanese respectively. Subtitles in multiple languages will be available.
“We are thrilled that such iconic figures will kick off this year’s event,” said GGJ Director Foaad Khosmood. “No doubt they will inspire many young designers and game enthusiasts to do great things in the future.”
The keynote video is to be played worldwide at 5 p.m. Friday of the GGJ weekend and marks the official beginning of GGJ 2012 event. In previous years, Kyle Gabler, Ste Curran and Keita Takahashi provided keynotes for GGJ.
Already the largest game creation event in the world, GGJ is set to break its own previous participation records. An estimated 10,000 jammers, organizers and volunteers are expected to take part in the event this year with participation in more than 200 locations worldwide spanning 6 continents and 45 countries.
Global Game Jam 2012 will take place from Friday - Sunday, Jan. 27 - 29, all around the globe.
