Applications for 2012 IGDA Scholar Program Due Jan. 20

LOS ANGELES – Applications are now due for the 13 th Annual International Game Developers Association (IGDA)’s Global Scholar Program.  Candidates need to submit the application at the IGDA website. Final deadline is January 20.

Scholars chosen in this round will be given free access to one of three major gaming events: PAX East, GDC San Francisco or SXSW Interactive; exclusive studio and booth tours as well as a chance for a one-on-one mentorship from a veteran in the gaming industry.

The purpose of the IGDA Scholar Program is to identify and then accelerate the careers of promising game development students. Many leading industry companies have signed on to participate in the program.   Autodesk as well as Microsoft Studios are Global Sponsors of the Scholars program and the Massachusetts Digital Games Institute (MassDiGI) has joined as a new sponsor this year as the program makes its debut in Boston at PAX East.

“The IGDA Scholars program selects the innovators of tomorrow in all crafts and then provides them an experience to help them become superstars,” Gordon Bellamy, executive director, IGDA, explains. “We take students behind the scenes at the biggest trade shows and let them meet and brainstorm with the creators of their favorite games.  During the process, they receive invaluable feedback, allowing them to shape their own concepts of what makes great games and great game careers.”

Ideal candidates will have demonstrated focused dedication to a game related career, academic excellence as well as displaying a breadth of activity and volunteerism within his or her community.  Applicants must be a full-time undergraduate, graduate or Ph. D student, 18 years of age or older, and a Member of the IGDA.  Students can still join the IGDA then apply.
