Australian indie developer creates free Greenlink tool to help developers drive votes to their Steam Greenlight submissions

What:  Australian indie developer creates free Greenlink tool to help developers drive votes to their Steam Greenlight submissions

Where: Melbourne, Australia

When: September 12, 2012

Details:  Australian indie developer Tom Greenaway, has released a free tool enabling indie devs to drive votes to their Steam Greenlight submissions from their websites or blog.

Entitled Greenlink, the tool can easily be integrated into any website and creates a nice looking widget or banner to push viewers directly to the developer’s page on Steam Greenlight.

Greenaway was inspired to create the gadget to help promote his own Greenlight submission when he realized that no official tool existed. In the spirit of indie development, and following the example of  presskit(), he decided to share it with the rest of the community for free.

More details on Greenlink:

What's the point of this?

Steam has just launched Greenlight™ and it is already very populated. I was hoping there'd be an easy way to link to your project page from your own website or on forums. A regular anchor link will do this but I believe a more consistent look for this type of branding will help grab your user's attention and drive them to upvote you!

What if Steam releases their own widget? Won't this become pointless?

Yes! And that'd be great. Steam should be working hard on Greenlight and giving it their all. I hope that by creating smaller tools to augment and help improve the Greenlight experience for indies that we will encourage and motivate Steam to keep pushing Greenlight's capabilities. If Greenlink becomes completely irrelevant I'll arrange to provide every user with a method of downloading their data.

Who are you?

I'm an indie developer and one third of the Australian studio  Kumobius. We've done pretty well on iOS and Android. We'd like to be on Steam and I created this tool to help encourage more votes for our product on Greenlight™. Our premiere game is  Bean's Quest – a 16 bit platformer starring a jumping bean. We're also hard at work on our next game, which will launch before the end of 2012.
