Ever since we released the first video teaser back in February 2013, we've been asked how our vehicle damage modeling works.
The big question has been "but is it soft-body deformation?" as opposed to rigid bodies and pre-set damage models, and we can guarantee you that yes, it is. This system was first used in Ridge Racer Unbounded (2012) and has been extensively updated and refined since. It uses no pre-set damage models and as few limits as we can get away with.
What that means is that when you hit a car with something or the other way around, the car is going to have the right sized and shaped dent exactly where it was damaged.
Our aim with the damage modeling is to just have as much fun as possible with it. Because we can push cars through industrial grade metal presses, we certainly will. We're creating a fun driving game with lots of crashes in it, and they're going to look spectacular!
All of the cars in the game use the same system, so you're going to see at least a dozen cars all mangled together in epic demolition derbies.

Steam Greenlight update
We went on Steam Greenlight last week. It's been a tremendous success! We are currently voted number 26 out of 1391 games on Greenlight. 80% of voters want to see the game on Steam, choosing the "yes, I would buy it" option. Let's see if we can break into the top 20!
NEXT CAR GAME is currently scheduled to be released on PC as digital download early 2014, and it is available for pre-ordering now. By pre-ordering, the players will get a chance to see the game early – once we reach 10'000 pre-orders we're going to release a sneak peek of the game. This is a going to be a glimpse of great things to come, and a superb way of kickstarting the community.
Then, later this year, all pre-order customers will receive a pre-Alpha build that will give them an early access to the game. This is a much more complete version of the game.
Not only do the players get a chance to join the fun right away and get access to exclusive content, they also get a chance to help shaping the game into something they want to play.

Our NEXT CAR GAME is all about fun, breakneck racing and over-the-top crashes. We don’t shy away from contact, and our in-house engine is all about what happens when cars collide with each other and the world around them at reckless speeds.
It’s a motorsport, but not just any motorsport. It’s a motorsport with attitude.
Expect epic crashes and tight, neck-to-neck fights over the finish line on run-down racing tracks. Expect proper, big demolition derbies. Expect brand new ways for metal to bend and the defining once-in-the-lifetime moments that can be achieved only with true-to-life physics simulation.
And don’t think that’s all. Not only the technology has been completely overhauled and brought up-to-date, but we’ve also gone to the source and figured out what a game like NEXT CAR GAME is really all about: taking your rust bucket, building it into a formidable track weapon and then battling it out on the track. To that end there’s now a lot of focus on car building and maintenance, with hunting for rare, sought-after parts and replacing damaged components, all that brings an added tactical element to the gameplay.
