Boston, Ma (December 19, 2012) The team at Brass Monkey is proud to announce a partnership with Flippfly, developer of 2013 IGF entrant “Race The Sun”, which will be the first desktop game to allow users to use their smartphone as a controller.
The two teams have already incorporated Brass Monkey controls into the browser based version of “Race The Sun”, which can be played in early Alpha at Brass Monkey’s site, playbrassmonkey.com or on Kongregate, where it has over 400,000 plays to date. Race the Sun allows for conventional keyboard controls, or iOS or Android users with WiFi can use Brass Monkey to make their phone into a tilt based controller.
To celebrate the partnership with Flippfly and their remarkably deep take on the infinite racer genre, the two teams have announced a giveaway running between today and January 16, 2013. Any registered Brass Monkey user who plays Race The Sun during the contest period will be automatically entered to win various prizes including models of the ship from Race the Sun, copies of the full game, Race The Sun/Brass Monkey smart device skins and even one Founders Club membership giveaway at flippfly.com. Complete details at http://playbrassmonkey.com/contests/racethesun.
The move to include desktop will expand not only the number of games that will work with Brass Monkey’s tech, but will also mean a move to deeper games. As is the case with the browser based software developer kits (SDKs), the desktop version will be available for free from Brass Monkey. Versions of the desktop edition of the Brass Monkey SDK are available for Unity or Adobe AIR. If this venture is successful the SDK will likely expand to include a C based library.
