CeBIT 2012: Gaming highlights in the Intel Extreme Masters Hall

World’s best gamers compete in the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship – A match-day of the German ESL Pro Series live on stage – Video game blockbusters in the Free Gaming Area

Cologne, March 1, 2012 – The heart of the competitive gaming (eSports) will once again be at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany. In the Intel Extreme Masters Hall (hall 23, 10,000 square meters) the Electronic Sports League (ESL) will present the final event of one of the most prestigious eSports tournaments in the world – the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship. 144 of the world’s best professional gamers will compete on three individual stages for high prize money and the title of the World Champion. Moreover, the visitors of the hall will be able to enjoy a match-day of the German national eSports league, the ESL Pro Series.

Those willing to play some games themselves will be given the chance to do so. In the Free Gaming Area a couple of the latest blockbusters will be available for the visitors to try out. In addition, ESL, in co-operation with Valve Software, will give away a total of 1,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta keys.

In the TwitchTV Champions Lounge, players of the Intel Extreme Masters competition will be gathering their strength between matches. Although the lounge will not be available for the regular visitors, the areas near the lounge will be a perfect place for the autograph hunters to meet some of their favorite teams and idols.

Intel Extreme Masters World Championship

Thousands of players from all over the world participated in the qualifiers for the Intel Extreme Masters season 2011/2012. After Global Challenges in Cologne (Germany), Guangzhou (China), New York (US), Kiev (Ukraine) and Sao Paulo (Brazil), the new World Champions will be determined at CeBIT 2012. In the disciplines of Counter-Strike 1.6, StarCraft II and League of Legends, 144 best gamers will compete for the title and their share of 283,000 US Dollar. The total prize purse of the 2011/2012 season of the league is 643,000 US Dollar – the world's highest prize money for an international eSports league.

ESL TV, the ESL’s web TV service, will broadcast the entire event live in eight different languages and in HD. The Intel Extreme Masters league is supported by the long-term partner Intel, BenQ, TwitchTV and Razer.

ESL Pro Series – The national gaming league

On Thursday, the German gaming elite will step up for a fight in the ESL Pro Series, the German national gaming league. Valuable points for the playoff stages are on the stake. The League of Legends and StarCraft 2 matches will take place at around 14:00 (CET) on Intel Extreme Masters World Championship Arena (the main stage). The participants are: ALTERNATE vs. Acer in League of Legends and Jonathan ‘DarKFoRcE‘ Belke vs. Carlo ‘ClouD’ Giannacco in StarCraft II.

Gaming highlights in the Free Gaming Area

In addition to the high class eSports action, the visitors will also have the chance to get hands on the latest blockbusters on the video games market.

eSports action on ESL TV and gaming stars on site in the TwitchTV Champions Lounge

The most successful professional gamers from all around the world will face each other in the Intel Extreme Masters Hall. During the breaks, the visitors will have the chance to meet their idols next to the TwitchTV Champions Lounge for a quick chat or for an autograph. The lounge will be a secluded area for the players to relax and prepare for the matches.

Everyone who will not be able to attend the event at CeBIT will be able to follow it on ESL TV, ESL’s web TV service. The tv will report live from the venue throughout the entire show in eight languages. At all eSports fans can follow the action from the CeBIT 2012 in Hanover from home and in HD.
