Cologne, February 26th 2013 – From March 5th to 9th, the Intel Extreme Masters ends its seven-month 2012/2013 season with a bang at CeBIT 2013 in hanover, Germany. In the Intel Extreme Masters Hall (hall 23, 10,000m²) Turtle Entertainment GmbH, the leading eSports company in Europe, will bring together the world’s best gamers to compete in League of Legends and StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm for a prize pool of a quarter million US Dollars.
The Intel Extreme Masters World Championship will host the first ever Heart of the Swarm tournament, just days before the March 12 launch of StarCraft II's latest installment. All the action from this event will be broadcast live to 180 countries by ESL TV via Twitch.tv the leading global video streaming platform for gamers. The stream has an expected audience of 5 million unique viewers worldwide.
The Intel Extreme Masters Championship trophy is one of the most prestigious awards in the gaming world. It stands for seven months of hard work and demonstration of excellent gaming skills at five events across three continents. Throughout the entire season. The best gamers from all over the world have been competing for their share of 700,000 US Dollars and the title of World Champion. The participants at CeBIT include such StarCraft II celebrities such as Manuel 'Grubby' Schenkhuizen (NL), Ilyes 'Stephano' Satouri (FR), Jung 'Mvp' Jong Hyun (KR) and Jang 'MC' Min Chul (KR), as well as League of Legends powerhouses like Gambit Gaming (RU), Evil Geniuses (EU) and both CJ Entus Frost & Blaze teams (KR).
The League of Legends tournament will feature two groups of six teams each, whereas the StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm tournament will include four groups of six players each. Once the group stages have been completed, the best teams and players will move on to the playoff phase.
