FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Omaha, Nebraska - The November 6th poll saw the first US states legalizing the recreational use of marijuana. This is only the beginning of the fight against legislation and so Dave Homan hopes to wrangle players around to his liberal view on the matter through his computer and mobile game, Drugbound ( drugbound.com).
"I think if you're a responsible adult there is no reason you should not be permitted to use marijuana for recreational use. Period," says Dave Homan, Founder of Slouch Couch Game Studio. "I also feel that our society as a whole is diminished by wasting so much energy and resources on this weird prohibition of something so utterly and completely harmless."
With the recent poll in the US that saw Colorado and Washington become the first states to legalize marijuana, there's definitely a cause to be fought for! Dave supports it by not just being outspoken about his views but also in transferring them into a more expressive medium as inspired by the punk bands he listened to during his teen years. Drugbound is a computer and mobile game that he has developed that expounds his thoughts on the subject of marijuana prohibition. The game itself is an infinite sidescrolling runner experience through a nightmare devilscape of heavily-enforced government prohibition. Players collect marijuana during their psychedelic journey which can then be spent on various items in the in-game shop. The game also contains pro-marijuana messages within its fabric that aims to negate the US legislation against the currently illegal drug with various pertinent facts.
"How I see it, the more that pop culture is imbued with images and messages about marijuana the more accepted the idea of it will probably be," explains Dave. "I want the players of my games to question something they've been taught or told. If someone plays Drugbound a few times and then comes out with, "Oh hey, the US drug war actually IS racist!" then I figure I'll get my angel wings or something."
Drugbound will be released for this coming Winter across iOS and Android devices as well as on Windows, Mac and Linux PCs.
An Indie Games Festival (IGF) trailer with gameplay footage of Drugbound is available to download in the Press Kit. It can also be embedded from YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-eTHt2YZ2o

About Slouch Couch Games Studios
Slouch Couch started out life as a game jam team formed in September 2011. The collaboration was dissolved after the event but the original team lead, Dave Homan, decided to take the helm as a sole game developer. Since its inception, Slouch Couch aimed to use video games to challenge societal norms and reveal the absurdism that people have been conditioned to ignore. With playing computer games being more mainstream than ever, especially with the mobile gaming market, Slouch Couch is passionate about using the medium to make people think just as much as they make them laugh.
