LANGHORNE, PA., June 7, 2007 - Casual games developer and publisher eGames, Inc. (Pink Sheets: EGAM) today announced that Jerry Klein, company President and CEO, will participate in the 4.4 mile Great Chesapeake Bay Swim ( http://www.bayswim.com) on Sunday, June 10, 2007 to promote the recently released eGames title Burger Island for charity. Five percent of the proceeds of all sales of Burger Island at www.egames.com from today through June 30th will be contributed to the March of Dimes. Starting about five miles northeast of Annapolis, MD, the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim (GCBS) is a charitable fundraiser for the March of Dimes. The net proceeds of the event aid the March of Dimes in its Campaign for Healthier Babies. This will be Klein's 20th attempt of the race that he's successfully completed 18 times.
“We are proud to contribute to the March of Dimes cause through Burger Island,” said eGames Product Manager Greg Zesinger.“We know that Jerry’s competitive hunger will propel him through the waves of the Chesapeake, just as hunger drives hordes of famished customers to the Beach Burger restaurants featured in the game.”
One of America's premier open water swim challenges, the GCBS has raised over $1,000,000 in charitable contributions since its inception and over 4,500 swimmers have completed the race. Only 22 swimmers have completed 15 or more events limited to about 700 entrants each year for safety reasons.
“Every year, I dedicate my GCBS effort to a special cause in addition to the March of Dimes. Every time I compete, I see special athletes or special spectators that are less fortunate than me because of some injury or disease. The special athletes are particularly inspirational because I know how difficult it is for me to train for an endurance event, and I don't have any special needs. Compounding the difficulty of training and competing because of some special need requires an extraordinary commitment," said Klein.
Free trials of Burger Island are available at www.egames.com, www.sandlotgames.com, and other major portals including Yahoo!, where the title recently was ranked as the weekly #1 selling downloadable game.
